The vocalist of world famous band, Linkin Park bid adieus to the whole world on July 20 at the age of 41. He has committed suicide by hanging himself in his Palos Verdes Estate in L.A. country. His body was discovered by the law enforcement at about 9 am local time. His strong vocals in albums like Hybrid Theory and Meteora made him and his band become the global phenomenon. His death has stunned the whole music industry and his fans across the world.

1. Childhood and family background
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Chester Bennington’s mother was a nurse while his father was a police detective who worked with child sex abuse cases. When he was 11, his parents got divorced and his father got his custody.
2. His addiction to drugs and alcohol
After his parents’ divorce, Bennington got addicted to alcohol and drugs like marijuana, opium, methamphetamine and LSD. He overcame his drug addiction after some time but he against started drinking heavily during Linkin Park tours. In 2011, he said that he has quit nothing.
3. When he was house arrested
He moved to his mother at the age of 17. When his mother got to know about his alcohol and drug addiction, she banned him from going out of the house so that he couldn’t get access to drugs.
4. He was molested as a child
When he was a child, Chester was bullied for being too skinny and was sexually molested by his seniors in school. In an interview, he said,
“When I was young, getting beaten up and pretty much raped was no fun,” he says suddenly and disarmingly. “No one wants that to happen to you and honestly, I don’t remember when it started. I remember that being molested at that stage and even thinking about it now makes me want to cry. Oh, my God, that was fucking happening to me and I was just that little, much earlier than I’d remembered. My God, no wonder I became a drug addict. No wonder I just went completely insane for a little while.”
5. He first began singing with a band called Sean Dowdell and His Friends
Chester Bennington first began singing with a band called Dean Dowdell and His Friends. In 1993, together they released an eponymous three-track cassette. Bennington, along with Sean Dowdell, moved on to form a new band, Grey Daze, a post-grunge band from Phoenix, Arizona. However, he left Grey Daze in 1998 and struggled to find another band.
6. Formation of Linkin Park
After many failures, he was frustrated and was ready to quit his musical career but then he was called for the auditions by the vice president of A&R at Zomba Music in Los Angeles with future members of Linkin Park.
7. Release of Hybrid Theory
On 24 October 2004, Linkin Park released their debut album, Hybrid Theory. Bennington and Shinoda penned down the lyrics to Hybrid Theory based on some early material. Shinoda described the lyrics as interpretations of universal feelings, emotions, and experiences, and as “everyday emotions you talk about and think about.”
Bennington later described the songwriting experience to a magazine in early 2002, “It’s easy to fall into that thing – ‘poor, poor me’, that’s where songs like ‘Crawling’ come from: I can’t take myself. But that song is about taking responsibility for your actions. I don’t say ‘you’ at any point. It’s about how I’m the reason that I feel this way. There’s something inside me that pulls me down.”
8. Dead by Sunrise
In 2005, he co-founded Dead by Sunrise with Orgy and Julien-K members Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck. The band made their live debut in May 2008. Dead by Sunrise released their debut album ‘Out of Ashes’ on October 13, 2009.
9. Stone Temple Pilots
When lead vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots parted his ways with the band in 2013, Chester Bennington was recruited to replace him. He debuted for the on 18th May 2013. On May 19, 2013, the band released a free download of their first single, “Out of Time” that features Bennington via their official website.
10. His return to Linkin Park
He returned to Linkin Park in 2015. In an interview, he said, “Singing lead vocals in Stone Temple Pilots was my lifelong dream. I left the band on good terms due to my commitments with Linkin Park.”
11. His Family and Personal Life
Bennington had a relationship with Elka Brand with who he had a child, Jamie. He also adopted a son, Isaiah. He then married Samatha Marie Olit on October 31, 1996, with who he had a child, Draven Sebastian Bennington. Their marriage declining after his early years in Linkin Park and they finally divorced in 2005.
He then married a former Playboy model, Talinda Ann Bentley. He had three children with her: Tyler Lee Bennington and twins Lilly and Lila.
